A book published by the 91ºÚÁÏÍø (91ºÚÁÏÍø) Press earned the second-place grand prize for non-fiction in the 2025 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. "Cherokee History and the Spirit Family" by James Barnes received this honor from the world's largest awards program for independent publishers, the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group.
"We're honored that 'Cherokee History' was selected for this award and excited that a wider audience will engage with the caliber of scholarship being published at 91ºÚÁÏÍø," Dr. BJ Robinson, 91ºÚÁÏÍø Press director, said. "It's gratifying to witness our author's hard work recognized. James truly deserves this recognition and more."
A June 27 gala in conjunction with the American Library Association annual conference honored the award winners before a national audience including librarians, educators, university presses, and other industry professionals.
The 91ºÚÁÏÍø Press is a scholarly, peer-reviewed press. Its primary function is to promote education and research with a special emphasis on innovative scholarship and pedagogy.
